Powers for the Barbarian Lands.
By Jay Hafner <Emirikol7@AOL.COM>

Official references from Len Lakofka's articles in _Dragon about the
Suel gods, as well as the modules "Five Shall be One" by C.Sargent, and "Howl
from the North" by Slade.

I present this piece because I wanted to get away from the feeling that
Greyhawk is just another world where we can just substitute entire pantheons
from earth. Although it is convenient, I feel that it dilutes the uniqueness
of what the World of Greyhawk really is; an alien fantasy world (nevermind
that some of the gods hold ancient earthly names anyway).

I have written them without much comment, because the descriptions of the
gods in the _Dragon articles provide more than enough explaination on how
things are.

_PRIMARY GODS OF THE ICE, SNOW, AND FROST BARBARIANS_
KORD - Athletics, Sports, Brawling
Clearly the supreme god of the barbarian lands. He is widely revered by all
barbarians of all the northern tribes. The barbarian people fear him because
of his temper and terrible wrath. He is well loved by berserkers.
LLERG - Beasts, Strength, Berserkers, Druids "second only to kord there"
This god supports the barbarians reverence of druids. He is also worshipped
by cavemen and berserkers.
VATUN, Great God of the North - War
I suspect that if Iuz wasn't behind this whole scheme from the beginning, it
is the Avatar of Kord who would arrive when the 5 swords of the barbarians
are united.

_SECONDARY POWERS OF THE ICE, SNOW, AND FROST BARBARIANS_
Beltar - Malice, Caves, Pits "can be found in the barbarian
lands..humanoids"
Norebo - Luck, Gambling, Risks, Raiders "abounds in the barbarian states"
Obad Hai - Nature, Woodlands, Freedom, Druids "worshipped all across the
flanaess", WGSx
Oldammara - Music, Revels, Bards, Wine "WGS"
Syrul - Lies, Deciet, Treachery " in the thieves quarters of the
cities..barbarian lands" esp. Stonefist.
Xerbo - Sea, Sailing, Money, Business "preferred deity of seafaring
barbarians".

_TERTIARY, OR LEAST WORSHIPPED POWERS IN THE SULOISE BARBARIAN LANDS_
Fortubo - Stone, Metals, Mountains "temples in the flinty hills" - dwarves
and gnomes
Hextor - War, Discord, Massacres There is an old oeridian shrine still in use
in one of the WGS modules
Jascar - Hills, Mountains, Slopes "..flinty hills..mountains and hills"
Osprem - Water Voyates "Rarely worshipped in the northern areas"
Phyton - Beauty, Nature "Rural settings" - Barbarians revere druids
Pyremius - Fire, Poison, Murder "some worshippers in the barbarian lands
but not plentiful"

FALSE RELIGIONS
"He-who-slices-through-glacier-and-frozen-caribou-like-warm-blubber" Pg
27"howl.." This religion was started by Kabloona Starskull when he gave this
name to the sword, The Edge, the fourth blade of the Corusk.

NOTE: Phaulkon and Wee Jas are not worshipped in the barbarian lands.
ADDED NOTE: The lands of Ratik and Stonefist can be modified slightly by
including a few more Oeridian and Flannish gods respectively. Also note that
there is some nice info on the Norselands in _Dra#90 by Roger M(whomever he
is...:)

Enjoy!
